I probably should have beat them with the yardstick instead of the ruler
Published February 1st, 2006 in A day in the lifeI teach an [unspecified test] review class, and last night was our last session together. The last class is always fun, because the students realize they’ve spent thousands of dollars and weeks of their time, the test is a week away, but because they’ve been slacking on their studying and homework, their scores have really not improved. The panic in their faces can be kinda funny, especially when they’re desperately searching for ways to cheat: “Uh… so, are there different versions of the test, or will I be taking the same test as my neighbors?”
Sometimes, in moments of self-doubt, I wonder if I’m to blame. Like last night, when in a class of nine, SIX OF THEM asked about taking the class again as part of our higher-score guarantee.
In my defense, if teaching were easy I wouldn’t have to get so drunk before I did it.
(Kidding!)
i’m pretty sure their business model does not envision a 66% return rate on their students.
unless all your kids are rocking high scores already.
They are so going to fire you if they ever read your blog.
