I give good moral
Published May 10th, 2006 in MiscellaneousMy uncle recently sent me the following four questions on ethics and morals. While I think it’s immoral for family members to give each other pop quizzes, I decided to give it a try anyway.
What a difference a day makes: 24 little hours
Published May 9th, 2006 in 24, TelevisionLast season, I got into 24 quite a bit. Most people I know say it’s the best show on television, and I have to admit, I see their point. I’m mostly impressed by how much Jack Bauer manages to squeeze into a day. To illustrate, I’m going to compare each hour of Jack’s day to the corresponding hour in my own day.
Jack’s day 3 – 4 AM: This was the Top Gun hour. Jack’s in a commercial airliner with the crucial evidence to incriminate the President. The President, who doesn’t want to go to jail, sends up an F18 to shoot the plane down under the false pretense that Jack is going to ram the plane into a building into Los Angeles. But anyone who knows Jack knows that if he wanted to kill Angelenos, he’d do it with his hands.
Dry humping a supermodel: what’s new on Lost
Published May 4th, 2006 in Lost, TelevisionLost has a habit of setting up dozens of mind-boggling mysteries and solving NONE of them. My friend Jordan, whose use of imagery is nothing short of genius, describes the experience of watching the show as frustrating as “Dry Humping a Supermodel”.
This week’s Supermodel: The Others
Now, I know I’ve talked about the Others before, but sooner or later I’m going to have to double up, and the Others are THE mystery of season two. You can read my last post about them here. If you don’t feel like reading it, they’re a bunch of people who can show up at any place at any time, and when they do, you’re not leaving with as many kids as you showed up with.
Making sense of the numbers
Published May 3rd, 2006 in MiscellaneousAs I’ve worked on this site I’ve downloaded several nifty statistics programs. Mostly I use them for hourly checks on how many people have looked at my site so far that day. (Answer: not that many - let’s shoot for triple digits, people!) But there are other cool features. For instance, when people find my site via a search agent, I can see what phrase they had entered, and when I look through these, I find it to be very telling about the kind of people who make up my audience.

Jack’s day 2 – 3 AM: This is a great hour for technology. Jack has just illegally boarded a “diplomatic flight” to Frankfurt using his CLOAK OF INVISIBILITY, which only looks like a hooded sweatshirt to those who aren’t in the know. Not only that, once they’re in the air Jack gets a call from Chloe on his cell phone, which means either Jack has a better cell phone than, well, anyone, or Chloe has recently discovered how to hack the ionosphere. Neither possibility should be ruled out.
